Decorating For Christmas & Fall. All Before Thanksgiving

by Ed Yannett

If you’re a fan of Christmas but are worried that it might be too early to start decorating, don’t despair. You can start planning your holiday decorations now, but still find a way to decorate for fall before the holidays actually arrive.

Think about following nature and the seasons when decorating. You can enjoy the shades of autumn while you're preparing your home for Christmas decorations. It's all about the harvest, and it's important to celebrate it with natural and seasonal elements. This can set the mood for the winter and holiday seasons.

If you're itching to decorate for the holidays before eating all that turkey, here's some ideas on how you can do it!

Keep it Transitional

One of the most important factors people can consider when planning their holiday decorations is blending the two seasons. This will allow them to keep the fall vibe going while also adding some winter greens to their home. Then, right after Thanksgiving, it's simple to transition to the sparkly decor of Christmas!

Incorporate both natural and neutral elements into your home. Use your winter greens and natural elements such as pinecones, berries, and twigs. These items can be used in a transitional setting to create a warm and festive feeling. A pair of battery operated candles and a few twinkle lights can add a friendly glow to your home.

Lighting is Key

While holiday lights are usually reserved for Christmas, they can also be used to make your home look festive for Thanksgiving and New Year's. White twinkly lights and pretty candles can add a touch of holiday cheer to your home.

Many people enjoy using small clear fairy lights throughout the year, and they can be used in various ways to bring a sense of warmth to a dark and depressing evening. For instance, you can string them around an indoor plant, or you can arrange them around a vase.

Before the cold weather arrives, put up the holiday lights outside! If you hang them early, you'll avoid spending hours out in the cold once the temperature drops!

Use What You Have

Since the time window between holidays is relatively short, don't run out and buy tons of home decor. You may have more neutral items than you think! Don't hesitate to look for greenery at a local farmer's market or the florist. Maybe check the backyard!

You can also repurpose anything that is already a natural element (wreaths, garlands, etc.) or use paint to to change colors quickly.

Or...Just Put Them Up!

If putting up that tree makes you happy, don't worry about waiting! If it makes you happy, there's no need to wait. Enjoy the season for as long as you can!

How do you feel about decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving? Do you wait or go for it? Do you have a plan for decor during the in-between time?
